Instagram recently introduced a new messaging feature called “/silent.” It lets you send messages silently without notifying the recipient. Try/silent is a new feature that lets you send messages without notifying the other users. It works the same in group chats, where no one will be notified about your silent messages. 

Using /silent feature, you can exceed your limits and send a message without having to worry whether the person is online or may get disturbed by this. Part of its use is to inform the user with your least concerning messages that still require their attention and should be informed about it. 

You can send text, pictures, videos, emojis, and others like you normally do in your messages. They will not receive any notification about this if you use /silent feature. 

How To Use Try/silent Feature On Instagram DMs?

To use silent feature or mute messaging feature, you do not have to make any specific changes either to Instagram or your phone’s settings. Yet, you need to update the Instagram app to its latest version as the feature is recent and might not be available for you.

Step 1: Launch Instagram app or web version and log in to your account if you haven’t.

Step 2: Go to your Direct Messages or DMs tab by tapping the paper airplane / message icon in the upper right corner of your screen. 

Step 3: Select the person you want to use the /silent feature. Tap and open your chats with them. 

Step 4: Now, where you type your messages, enter /silent <space> <your text, numbers, emojis> and then press send icon to deliver it.

 As you tap the send icon to the right, your message will be sent and the person would not be informed about it. They can not see your message until they open their DMs. 

How To Turn OFF /silent On Instagram?

Instagram has not given any updates on whether you can turn off silent feature. So, either you choose to use /silent feature or you can simply switch to your normal conversation mode where you use it to send messages. 

As of now, There is no way you can turn ON/ OFF the /silent feature on Instagram. It all depends on whether your message is important and the other person must view it.
