Snapchat has this feature called Snap Maps. As the name sounds, it gives you access to know the real-time locations of your friends.
Snap Map will not remove your location immediately when your phone dies. It usually takes up to 7-8 hours of inactivity on Snapchat for your location to vanish. Snapchat keeps updating your location in the background when you use the app.
Snapchat fails to update your real-time location when your phone gets dies. The same is true when you do not use Snapchat for some reason. It will only show your last location for about 8 hours, and if you continue to be inactive on Snapchat for more than this, your location will disappear from the Snap Map.

Does Snapchat Location Turn Off When Phone Dies
Your location on Snap Map indeed turns off when your phone dies, but it is also true that this process does not happen instantly. Snapchat counts for about eight hours of your inactivity to remove your location from Snap Map.
Your last location will appear for 8 hours to your friends after you become inactive. Your location will automatically vanish from Snapchat if you do not become active before the completion of that time.
